The 2006 Jacksonville Code Camp introduces many innovating ideas. The Code Countdown is such a ground breaking idea that most instantly love or hate.
So why does The Code Countdown create such polar reactions? The Code Countdown is an attempt to essentially do the impossible. The goal is to code a beta version of an application from scratch during the 2006 Jacksonville Code Camp using the .NET 2.0 Framework. The application will be for a non-profit charity.
JaxDug.com President, Dennis J. Bottjer, realized that Code Camps such as the 2nd Annual Jacksonville Code Camp, bring together some of the best .NET programmers in the region for a day and wondered how these resources be leveraged. Two answers came almost instantly. The first was to ask our MVP Speakers to participate in an Ask the Experts Session with the goal of promoting more interaction between speakers and attendees. The second answer is what we have named The Code Countdown and leverages the skills of several talented members of the developer community to build an application for a needy charity. Vinay Ahuja, JaxDug.com Secretary and SIG Coordinator, has been instrumental in supporting and planning both Ask the Experts and The Code Countdown. David Silverlight and Shawn Weisfeld have helped make The Code Countdown a reality by helping us choose a project, gather requirements, and architect the solution.
On Saturday August 26th, a brief overview of the project will be given during the Key Note. During Code Camp attendees can visit The Code Countdown Room to monitor the progress. Finally, during the closing ceremony a Beta Version of the application will be demonstrated.
